Bathroom remodels are very popular these days. It is a major facelift for one of the most important rooms of the house and the cost can be very low to accomplish a lot. Although blue and pink fixtures may have worked when they were installed, a new clean look makes a huge difference. Styles come and go, but an updated, fresh look will remain timeless.
Tile is still a great look in a bathroom. Tile floors always work, and with the various designs and brands out there today, the sky is the limit. A darker grout with a lighter tile is another popular look, and darker grout helps to conceal dirt.
A Granite countertop is still a less expensive alternative to Quartz or Corian, and with an under mount sink, it allows for a sleeker look and easier maintenance. Today, faucet choices are wide spread. There are many options to choose from, so just find one that matches your taste and the style of your new bathroom.
Tub surrounds can still make a nice update to an old tub, while another option may be to install tile on the walls around the tub. Or, if you’d like discard the tub altogether, Sterling makes a very nice 5 piece tub surround that is made with a Vikrel material. Vikrel is very sturdy, feels durable to the touch and does not come off as a cheap substitute.
Make sure that you have a working exhaust fan; this will help keep moisture down in the room. Have your contractor ensure the fan is vented outside. Years ago, it was common to vent the fan right into the attic, but that will only lead to potential moisture problems in your attic. Another way to keep the paint in your bathroom looking great is to use exterior paint. If you think about it, the paint on the outside of your house holds up pretty good considering the wide range of conditions it endures between re-painting. The moisture and occasional heat in the bathroom will be no match for the exterior paint.
Be sure to do your homework and check out the many pictures you can find online or in magazines. Take an idea from one and add it to another. Before you know it, the room will come together with the help of an experienced contractor!
